The Ancestors of the Nottoway Nation, Southeastern Virginia who were enslaved and protected those escaping from slavery; 2/3/2012

Here’s to my dad: a New York liberal who married a small town southern girl. He taught us to love all people which was no small feat in that racially divided Florida town.

He gave his time and talents and what little money he could spare from the family for the just cause of race in the 1960′s.

He passed in 1977 and I still think about him helping Frank and Emile (Haitians who were being held against their will on a sloop), about the homeless African American man we gave a ride to the bus station–sandwiches from my mother’s kitchen and $20 in his pocket.

Thank you Daddy. Rowland G, May 2, 2010
